What should I do if my plush toy sheds? Three scientific solutions, from fabric to cleaning in one step
Do your stuffed toys at home get furry as soon as you hold them? Your child's soothing doll is shedding and you dare not let them touch it? As a 32-year-old plush toy manufacturer, we receive inquiries about "shedding" every day - in fact, shedding can be divided into "normal floating shedding" and "abnormal shedding". With the right methods, it can be solved and you can also avoid purchasing traps.
First, distinguish between normal hair loss and abnormal hair loss
The slight floating fuzz on new toys is mostly normal (similar to the slight color fading of new clothes), which is the short fuzz left after the fabric is cut. Abnormal shedding is caused by insufficient fabric density and rough craftsmanship.
Two judgment techniques:
Gently stroking the fur: A small amount of short hair falls out without "bald spots", which is normal loose hair. A large amount of long hair that falls out in clusters and exposes the stitches is abnormal hair loss.
Check the label: Regular toys indicate the fabric (such as "high-density polyester fiber") and certification (CE/ASTM). Our factory's toys use fabric with a "pile density ≥280 strands per square centimeter", which is combed and set three times. The amount of loose fibers is far lower than the industry standard.
Three scientific methods to solve the problem of hair loss
Method 1: For new toys, first "fix the fuzz" to reduce the floating fuzz
Don't use the toys you just received directly. First, do a firming treatment.
Use wide tape to remove the surface loose fibers along the direction of the fibers, and repeat this process 2 to 3 times.
Blow the cold air setting of the hair dryer 30cm away from the doll and stick it again. 80% of the loose hair will be removed.

Method 2: Choose the right cleaning method to avoid further hair loss
Incorrect cleaning will aggravate hair loss. Select solutions based on different scenarios:
For light stains (dust/a small amount of residue) : Use a soft-bristled brush dipped in phosphorus-free laundry detergent to gently brush, wipe off the foam with clean water, and air dry in a well-ventilated area (avoid direct sunlight).
For severe stains (oil stains/sweat stains) : Soak in cold water with neutral laundry detergent for 10 minutes. Gently press the stain with your hand (do not rub). After the towel absorbs the moisture, air dry it. While drying, gently comb the fur to prevent clumping.
Factory process: Our washable toys are made with "high-temperature set fluff + waterproof stitching". After 5 washes, the fluff loss rate is ≤3%, which is lower than the industry standard of 10%.
Method 3: Daily maintenance to extend the no-shedding period
Storage: Stand upright in a well-ventilated place, or store in a vacuum bag (leaving 10% space) to avoid deformation due to compression.
Usage: Prevent children from pulling on the plush or biting the corners. Gently comb the plush with a wide-toothed comb every week to reduce tangling and friction.
When purchasing, avoid pitfalls: Pay attention to 3 points when choosing toys that don't shed easily
Fabric density: ≥260 pieces per square centimeter. It rebounds quickly after being pressed. You can request a test report (we provide third-party certification).
Sewing process: The corners are sewn with "double-thread sewing + edge wrapping", and "reinforcing patches" are added to key areas.
Smell the odor: There is no pungent chemical smell, only a faint fabric smell (our products have passed the "no odor test").
